Great post. I agree, the new Google OpenSocial initiative seems really great! It will fill a void that has long existed amongst the social networks. I do, however, feel that the adoption of this technology will be slow as many networks will refuse to integrate. I can see myspace and facebook shying away from OpenSocial because of the millions of dollars of revenue they might loose to competitive networks that use their data. Don't get me wrong, it is a GREAT idea but I fear adoption will be slower than anticipated.

I can see Facebook shying away for a while since they've already released their own API, but, in the end, it may hurt them to ignore the momentum that already exists behind OpenSocial. MySpace announced at the last minute that they're in, so now it seems that Facebook, Yahoo and Microsoft are the three big companies which haven't adopted the API. If I had to guess, I'd say that they all adopt the API in some way by the end of the year.
